As an apparel designer, Schmidt designs for the person who loves beautiful garments over everything else. Schmidt's design ethos is based on the love of dressing up and is meant to inspire the everyday person to find beauty in something new and unique. 
 
Schmidt draws inspiration from the tension found in their life. Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Schmidt often felt a sense of isolation. In a more relaxed dressing culture, they were able to find the beauty in the art of getting dressed up.
 
Today, Schmidt merges the cultural norms of daily clothing with high fashion. Rather than ignore the things around them, Schmidt is able to turn their surroundings into a consistent design ethos.
